Frequently Asked Questions About Our Dory Plans

Q: Do I have to order your plans as a downloadable ebook? I would like them on a CD.

A: Our plans come in 3 formats. Downloadable, on a CD, and in printed form. Your choice as to how you want them.

Q: What length Dory do these plans build?

A: The plans are for a 16' Grand Banks Dory. She is 16 feet from stem to stern with a 12' bottom.

Q: What width Dory do these plans build?

A: The Dory Beam is about 60" wide, gunwale to gunwale.

Q: Can I put an outboard engine on the counter? Your Plans look like they build a rowable boat only.

A: YES. An outboard motor requires a wider counter. When you order our plans, we include a completely seperate set of plans for building a 16' Grand Banks Dory that allows for an outboard engine to be used. This set of plans is FREE of charge. Limited Time Offer.

Q: How much will materials cost me to build my Dory?

A: Material costs vary depending on where in the world you live. The construction calls for the use of white pine. The price of pine planks varies depending on where you buy them. Where we live, all building materials can be purchased for well under $1000.00. You can get our materials list by clicking the following link here: Dory plan Materials List

Q: How much will my Dory weigh?

A: Depends upon your building material choice, but if you use a pine/oak combination she will weigh approx. 350 lbs completed.

Q: Can my Dory be rigged with sail and rudder?

A: Absolutely. This dory sails very well, especially if you add a centerboard. We do offer very simple drawings of the sail, rudder and tiller for you upon purchase of our plans at a 60% discount off the regular price. These drawings can be used as a guide to build your own as they include measurements.

Q: What if I buy your plans and feel that I can't build the boat, or am not satisfied in any way?

A: We guarantee your satisfaction and your ability to use our plans to build your dory. If you purchase the plans, review them and still feel you are not satisfied or that the project is outside your ability, we will refund your entire purchase price upon receipt of your returned plans to us.
